The chimney swifts are here!
Each year, a breathtaking flock of chimney swifts comes to roost in one of Notre Dame's chimneys. Come witness these migratory members of our more-than-human community with the Environmental Humanities Initiative.
We will gather in front of the Solitude of St. Joseph (100 St Mary's Rd, Notre Dame, IN 46556) to learn about chimney swifts from undergraduate biology student, Anna Gardner, who is conducting a years-long research project on ND's swifts. Following a brief talk, we will then visit the swifts' favorite chimney on campus and wait for the aerial show to begin. And if you're feeling inspired, you can write a poem to add to EHUM's poetry collection: The Species of Notre Dame: Poems for Our Lady's More-Than-Human Community.
Light refreshments will be served.
Feel free to bring binoculars, cameras, and friends. All are welcome.
Spread the word about the birds!
